Iloilo City’s main highway, the wide but busy and traffic hotspot Diversion Road in Mandurriao district, will be piloted as “Street of Discipline” starting January 2020.
Mayor Jerry P. Treñas met with Philippine National Police (PNP), Land Transportation Office (LTO), Highway Patrol Group (HPG), and Public Safety and Transportation Management Office (PSTMO).
The HPG and LTO will train city police and traffic aides, hopefully before the end of the year.
“We will also try to establish a 14-kilometer ‘street of discipline’ along Benigno S. Aquino Avenue starting January with coordinated efforts of the LTO, HPG, PNP and PSTMO. We will establish that here in Iloilo City, we follow to the letter all traffic laws and ordinances,” Treñas stressed.
He said the initiative will be an attempt to solve traffic problems because of the lack of discipline among drivers, thus the need for close coordination with LTO and HPG to strictly enforce ordinances and national laws.
These include speed limit, anti-modified mufflers, proper loading and unloading, among others./WDJ
