Following reports revealing the government will be conducting an inventory of the “Build Build Build” infrastructure program, along with Economic Planning Secretary Ernesto Pernia saying there would be approximately 75 priority projects trimmed from the list, Presidential Spokesperson Secretary Salvador Panelo, who was in Bacolod City over the weekend, said he is unsure if the Panay-Guimaras-Negros Bridge project had been “scratched.”
He noted, however, there were five bridge projects shelved by the government.
The spokesperson also pointed out, Pernia and Department of Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi earlier revealed some infrastructure projects have encountered financial and technical problems.
“It appears that we are still incapable of building these bridges with a long span,” Panelo said.
In an interview with online news site Rappler.com last week, Pernia said Duterte’s new list of projects will have 91 projects consisting of more feasible tasks.
The cabinet official said the bridge projects connecting Sorsogon and Samar, as well as one linking Leyte and Surigao, will not push through due to massive expenses and engineering problems.
However, Pernia also pointed out, projects that are shelved can still be taken up by the next administration./DGB, WDJ
