A total of 47 individuals, including resort owners, recently completed a community safety and aquatic rescue certificate program organized by the Sipalay City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office and Philippine Coast Guard-Sipalay City substation.
“We aspire to ensure public safety from our locals to the tourists who flock the city during the peak seasons,” said executive assistant for public safety Dionilo Bogtae.
The program was comprised of a three-day training organized by the Surf Life Saving Far North Coast, based in New South Wales, Australia; along with the Sanga Surf Life Saving Group of Bohol.
In addition, approximately 200 children between the ages of four and 10 underwent basic swimming technique trainings and child-friendly activities.
Sipalay City Mayor Maria Gina Lizares spoke during the closing ceremonies, where she said, “Lifesaving training and certification is a way of the city government in ensuring that even residents can help preserve lives in times of calamities and emergencies.”/WDJ
