An elderly man passed away last Sunday after suffering a cardiac arrest while watching the World Boxing Association super welterweight title bout between Manny Pacquiao and American boxer Keith Thurman.
Authorities identified the fatality as 53-year-old Edgardo Macairan, a resident of Purok Langis in Bacolod City’s Barangay Banago.
According to Macairan’s nephew, Jerome Lora, they were watching the fight at home.
He pointed out seeing his uncle jump and shout after Pacquiao knocked down Thurman in the first round but, by the second round, Macairan became quiet and noticed his uncle was struggling to breathe.
Macairan’s family immediately rushed him to the Riverside Medical Center, but he was declared dead on arrival by medical staff.
Lora added, Macairan suffered a mild stroke two years ago./DGB, WDJ
