According to data recently posted to social media by the Department of Finance, Negros Occidental ranked seventh among Visayas-Mindanao provinces in terms of local source income, or revenue generated from within the province, totaling P555 million in 2018.
Negros Occidental Provincial Planning and Development coordinator, Dr. Ma Lina Sanogal, credited the figure to real property tax revenue, along with income from the Mambukal Mountain Resort, provincial and district hospitals, among other government-run sources.
She added, income was also generated from leased land.
Sanogal said she is anticipating an increase next year.
“Our [local source income] is expected to increase when the food terminal is completed; the [Capitol Hostel] is formally opened; and the Mambukal Convention Center, [which is expected] to accommodate more guests, opens,” she explained.
Among Region VI provinces, Negros Occidental ranked third, behind first place Iloilo with P1.11 billion in income and fifth place Aklan, which posted P657 million./DGB, WDJ
