The Mambukal Mountain Resort in Murcia is scheduled to host Community Environment Day tomorrow, June 21, which seeks to raise awareness on environmental protection with Resort Manager Ellen Marie Jalandoni saying the event will focus on subjects including deforestation, proper waste disposal, ecological balance, and sustainable consumption.
“As a community, we should work together to further create cooperation and a holistic approach for these environmental concerns,” she explained.
Jalandoni pointed out, with the resort serving as a bat sanctuary, bird-watching site, and habitat for a number of animals, it is important that they focus on ecological protection and balance.
As part of the observance, there will also be a clearing and clean-up activity; along with planting bamboo, trees, and shrubs.
Last month, the Group of Environmental Socialists, alongside the Door Step To New Life Foundation Inc., observed the International Day for Biological Diversity by submitting a letter to the Negros Occidental Provincial Prosecutor’s Office seeking the investigation and prosecution of individuals who erect illegal structures at the Northern Negros Natural Park.
They also recommended filing graft charges against certain Department of Environment and Natural Resources officials whom they characterized as “inept.”
The International Day for Biological Diversity is celebrated every May 22 and was established by the United Nations in 2000./WDJ
