Marañon: Demonstrators are ‘misunderstanding’ the situation
By Dominique Gabriel G. Bañaga

In response to the Rafael B. Lacson Memorial High School students who recently protested the groundbreaking of the P135-million Negros First Global Institute of Technology in Talisay City, outgoing Negros Occidental Governor Alfredo Marañon, Jr. stood by the project and claimed demonstrators “misunderstood” their intentions.
He insisted students would benefit from the facility.
The students claimed the project would destroy the school’s oval, which is used as training grounds for school athletes.
Meanwhile, Marañon also affirmed, “The 2.5-hectare lot where the facility will stand is owned by the provincial government of Negros Occidental.”
Once completed the Negros First facility will be comprised of administrative offices, classrooms, and a dormitory for students. It is also set to become the new home for the Negros Occidental Language and Information Technology Center./DGB, WDJ
