The Negros Occidental provincial government broke ground yesterday for the P135 million Negros First Global Institute of Technology (NFGIT) in Talisay City. According to NFGIT head Ma. Christina Basa, the facility is located on 2.5-hectares of provincial government-owned land and, once completed, will be comprised of administrative offices, classrooms, and a dormitory for students.
She added, the facility will also become the new home for the Negros Occidental Language and Information Technology Center.
Meanwhile, several Rafael B. Lacson Memorial High School students protested the event.
They claimed the construction would destroy the school’s oval, which is used as training grounds for school athletes.
They were stopped by police as they tried to approach the groundbreaking.
Present for the groundbreaking were outgoing Negros Occidental Governor Alfredo Marañon, Jr.; Cadiz City Mayor-elect Salvador Escalante, Jr.; and Negros Occidental Provincial police chief, Police Colonel Romeo Baleros./DGB, WDJ
