A barangay kagawad was arrested yesterday morning after police recovered several firearms inside their home in Barangay San Fernando, Talisay City, Negros Occidental.
Police identified the suspect as Romulo Banhao, Jr., a resident of the neighborhood’s Purok Lanka who had previously served as barangay captain.
Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (NOPPO) director, Police Colonel Romeo Baleros, said elements of the Provincial Mobile Force Company 1st Company served a search warrant against Banhao after police received information claiming the suspect had several unlicensed firearms in his possession.
The said search warrant was issued by Judge Estefanio Libutan, Jr. of the Bacolod City Regional Trial Court-Branch 50.
Police recovered one .45 caliber pistol, one KG9 sub-machine gun, five .45 caliber magazines, two KG9 magazines, and 79 pieces of live ammunition.
Banhao faces charges for illegal possession of firearms and ammunition, and is detained at the Talisay City Police Station./DGB, WDJ
