The Bacolod City Sangguniang Panlungsod recently passed the “Bacolod Healthy Lifestyle Campaign Ordinance,” which seeks to raise awareness on practicing healthy lifestyle, including promoting nutritious and beneficial diets, along with encouraging physical activity.
According to Bacolod City Councilor Em Ang, who penned the ordinance, “Healthy lifestyle means a way of living that lowers the risk of being seriously ill or dying early.”
She said, “There is an urgent need to intensify the promotion of healthy lifestyle to prevent and control cases of [being] overweight, or obesity; and noncommunicable diseases among children and adults through campaigns on healthy eating, physical activity, and wellness programs.”
The ordinance also called on the local Department of Education to implement physical exercise during every flag ceremony. A similar requirement is also mandated for the city government and in the barangays.
An annual budget of P1 million will be required for implementation of the ordinance./DGB, WDJ
