The Commission on Elections (Comelec) in Bacolod City recently removed hundreds of illegal campaign posters. According to acting Comelec-Bacolod elections registrar Ann Janette Lamban, most of the tarpaulins removed were installed on electrical posts and trees.

She noted, most of the materials were promoting local candidates.

“We removed more than a hundred posters,” Lamban said.

The Comelec official pointed out most of the illegal posters were for Bacolod City Sangguniang Panlungsod candidates including incumbent City Councilor Bartolome Orola and Atty. Archie Baribar, both running on incumbent Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia’s Grupo Progreso; along with independent candidates Jason Villarosa and Rico Villafuerte.

“They are violating the provision of the law,” Lamban affirmed. “I’ll leave the citizens of the city to decide if they will elect the candidates whom they knew are violating [simple campaign rules].”

Aside from the local candidates, Lamban also said several “oversized” tarpaulins for senatorial candidates such were also taken down./DGB, WDJ
