At least one person was killed, while another was seriously wounded, following an ambush late Wednesday night by unidentified gunmen in Barangay Maricalum, Sipalay City.

Police identified the fatality only by his alias of ‘Rex,’ while the wounded was identified as 30-year-old Joemar Garcia of Barangay Magballo, Kabankalan City.

Sipalay City police chief, Police Major Anthony Grande, said the victims were returning to Kabankalan City after delivering medical supplies and books to Hinoba-an when they were ambushed by 10 heavily-armed men wearing bonnets.

The victims were rushed to the Kabankalan City District Hospital for treatment, but ‘Rex’ was declared dead on arrival by hospital staff.

Sipalay City police recovered a total of 70 empty shells from a .45 caliber firearm, along with 9mm firearms, from the crime scene.

Grande added, they are still trying to determine a motive behind the ambush./DGB, WDJ
