Department of Tourism (DOT) Undersecretary Arturo P. Boncato recently met with delegates of the Sénat, or the French Senate, and briefed them on the rehabilitation process at popular resort destination Boracay.

He noted, since last year’s reopening, the island has seen an average of 5,104 daily arrivals and 4,891 daily departures.

“We are amazed by how the national agencies uphold sustainable tourism in the island,” said Senator Jacky Deromedi, who represents French citizens living abroad.

During a recent meeting at City Mall Boracay, Boncato encouraged those gathered to report non-compliant local establishments.

Since the popular tourist destination’s reopening last October, establishments on the island are required to comply by regulations set by the DOT; Department of the Interior and Local Government; Department of Environment and Natural Resources; and the Malay municipal government, which has jurisdiction over Boracay.

“We urge you to report non-compliant establishments to the Boracay Inter-agency Task Force and local government unit so that we can take immediate action,” he stated./WDJ
