Two tremors strike southern Negros Occidental
Two weekend earthquakes shook Ayungon, in Negros Oriental, over the weekend.
The first quake, which measured 2.5 in magnitude, was recorded on Saturday morning, around 1:11 a.m., with an epicenter pinpointed just south of the town; the following day, a 2.7-magnitude tremor struck just before 7:30 a.m. with an epicenter also located south of the municipality.
According to a subsequent Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) bulletins, no damage was reported as a result of the tremors.
There were also no aftershocks expected.
Meanwhile, two additional earthquakes were recorded in the southern portion of Negros Occidental yesterday.
A 2.4-magnitude quake was felt early in the morning, around 1:48 a.m., and struck south of Kabankalan City; while the second tremor was recorded north of Sipalay City just before 7:50 a.m. and measured 2.6 in magnitude.
Phivolcs bulletins related to the Negros Occidental earthquakes reported no damage as a result of the tremors nor were there aftershocks expected.
Quakes ranging between 1.0 and 3.0 in magnitude are often classified as a Level 1 on the Mercalli Intensity Scale, where the tremor goes almost undetected./WDJ
