A Taiwan-registered plane overshot the runway at Kalibo International Airport in Aklan last Wednesday evening shortly after landing.
The plane, identified as a McDonnell Douglas MD-83, operating for Far Eastern Air Transport as Flight FE321, landed around 6:30 p.m. and ended up at the end of the airport’s runway, situated west of the main terminal building.
Rescue equipment was immediately scrambled following the incident and the 128 passengers and crew were evacuated safely without injury.
According to initial investigations by airport authorities, the plane’s front landing gear left the paved surface as it was taxiing to the terminal ramp area.
The airport was closed for at least one hour and 30 minutes until personnel was able to remove the aircraft from the runway.
It further noted, the plane was operating a charter flight carrying mostly Taiwanese tourists bound for Boracay./DGB, WDJ
