Following the viral social media post suggesting President Rodrigo Duterte was upset with Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia over the death of deputy Police Station 6 commander, Senior Police Officer 4 Oscar Exaltado, which circulated last month, the mayor said he may file cybercrime charges against former Bacolod City Mayor Monico Puentevella and his son, Bacolod City Councilor Claudio Jesus ‘Kalaw’ Puentevella.
Leonardia earlier took aim at the elder Puentevella by saying the story was being “peddled by a politician who claims to be a singing champion.”
“It was spread by a Facebook page that bears his name and that of his boxer son,” Leonardia said, referencing an incident last year when the younger Puentevella punched City Councilor Dindo Ramos.
The incumbent mayor previously affirmed there was no such statement made in the said speech.
Last month, Leonardia said he would consult his legal team on the possibility of filing charges, claiming the video depicting the president was “tampered” and being used as “propaganda material” against him.
City Legal Officer, Atty. Joselito Bayatan, said, while they are presently assessing the evidence, he believes there have been alterations made to the material in question.
“It is not for the purpose of honest reporting, but is actually to malign the reputation of the mayor,” he said.
Aside from Puentevella, they are also trying to trace the “true source” of the posts.
There also plans to submit a report to the Office of the President./DGB, WDJ
