Following their 25-21, 25-18, 28-26 win over the University of the Philippines (UP) in the 81st UAAP women’s volleyball season over the weekend at the San Juan Arena, Ateneo de Manila University (AdMU) now sit atop the standings with a 4-1 win-loss record.

Madeleine Madayag top-scored for AdMU with 14 points, while Kat Tolentino and Pauline Gaston contributed 12 and 10, respectively.

Down 14-12 early in the first set, AdMU came up with consecutive points to take an 18-14 edge. They went on to widen their lead to 24-18; however, UP managed to bring the match to within 24-21 before Gaston closed the set with an attack point.

In the following set, AdMU took advantage of UP errors and grabbed a 20-13 advantage. UP tried to rally after changing its lineup but Ateneo still cruised to an easy second set win.

In the third set, UP showed some life as it forced several deadlocks, pushing the match to 26-26. Unfortunately for UP, it was an error by their squad, followed by conversions by Deanna Wong, that sealed the win for AdMU./ASC, WDJ
