A Chinese team surveying the proposed Panay-Guimaras-Negros Bridge project rescued two fishermen earlier this month in the waters between Guimaras and Pulupandan, Negros Occidental.

Reports forwarded to Watchmen Daily Journal by the office of Pulupandan Mayor Miguel Peña revealed the fishermen, identified as Rovil and Ronnie Vilches, both residents of Buenavista, Guimaras, were spotted floating around 7:20 a.m. last March 1 by Feng Minhua, a surveyor for CCCC Highway Consultants Co. Ltd,, who were conducting depth measurements.

According to reports submitted to the mayor’s office, the two were struggling to stay up due to strong waves.

The survey team immediately stopped working and assisted the two fishermen.

Once pulled onto the survey vessel, it was determined their fishing boats were wrecked by strong waves.

The wreckage was later recovered and towed to the Sibunag Wharf by the survey team.

The rescued fishermen, meanwhile, were reunited with their families and expressed appreciation for their rescuers./DGB, WDJ
