At least one person was confirmed dead, while a woman was wounded, after they were allegedly assaulted and hacked by their son Monday evening at Purok Kinabong 3 in Barangay Igmaya-an, Don Salvador Benedicto.

Police identified the fatality as Gerardo Benarao, Sr., while the wounded was identified as Benarao’s wife, Senona; all residents of the said area.

Based on a statement given by their other son, Renato, the wife was heating up water for coffee, when the suspect, identified as the victims’ son Gerardo, Jr., allegedly grew angry at the time it took to prepare the drink.

A heated argument then ensued between the younger Benarao and his father, which prompted the suspect to leave.

However, by Monday evening, the suspect returned and claimed the hog they were raising escaped, prompting his mother to investigate the alleged incident.

Once she stepped outside, the victim was immediately assaulted and was hacked in the head. Although wounded, the wife managed to escape, while the younger Gerardo began assaulting his father and slashed him to death.

The suspect also attempted to burn his father’s remains.

The other son said it is possible his brother became angry because his parents did not allow him to own their property.

Don Salvador Benedicto police are now conducting a manhunt operation against the suspect./DGB, WDJ
