Both Bacolod-Silay and Iloilo International Airport have tightened security measures following the recent cathedral bombing in Sulu, which claimed the lives of 20 people and wounded 82 others.
Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines-Bacolod Public Information Officer Ofelia Leonardo said the heightened alert status is part of the airport’s culture of safety and security.
She said additional security protocols have been put in place with soldiers and police augmenting security.
In a separate radio interview, Iloilo Airport Terminal Supervisor Arthur Parreño said their airport’s security has been raised to a “Security Condition 2.”
Random checkpoints have been installed, in addition to the typical inspection procedures.
K-9 teams are also roaming Iloilo International Airport.
Parreño advised passengers to be at the airport at least two hours before their scheduled departure in order to avoid any delays./DGB, WDJ
