Bago City-born boxer Aston ‘Mighty’ Palicte defeated Puerto Rican fighter Jose Martinez following a second round stoppage in their World Boxing Organization (WBO) super flyweight eliminator yesterday at the Viejas Casino and Resort in Alpine, California.

The Negrense boxer dominated from the start and, in the second round, scored two knockdowns; forcing the referee to stop the fight.

The win pits Palicte against fellow Negrense, WBO super flyweight champion Donnie ‘Ahas’ Nietes of Murcia, who captured the belt following a split decision win over Japan’s Kazuto Ioka.

“I really believe na ako ang nanalo dun (I really believe I will win there),” the Bago City native said of his upcoming bout./ASC, WDJ
