Following the recent attacks in Jolo, Sulu, the Police Regional Office-6 (PRO-6) denied there is a presence of Islamic State (IS) terrorists in Western Visayas.

PRO-6 spokesperson, Police Superintendent Joem Malong, after acknowledging the receipt of several text messages claiming IS are planning attacks in the region, called the circulating message “fake news” and requested the public to stop spreading the said messages.

“Do not be a part of spreading fake news and unverified information [in order] to prevent panic and sowing fear [among] members of the community,” Malong said.

She added, instead of spreading fake news, the public should report suspicious personalities, strangers, and unscrupulous individuals to police.

The law enforcement official also assured the public that PRO-6 is “on top of the situation” and are imposing measures to monitor and prevent terror activities in the region./DGB, WDJ
