The remains recently found in a sugarcane field in Barangay Ayungon, La Carlota City, Negros Occidental have been identified by the city’s local police force.
Police identified the victim as 26-year-old Merlyn Villamar, a resident of Barangay Guintorilan, San Enrique.
La Carlota City police chief, Police Chief Inspector Romeo Vargas, said, based on autopsy results, it is believed she was struck by a large rock to the head, resulting in her death. Meanwhile, they have yet to determine if she was raped. The victim’s remains were found without underwear.
Police also interviewed her mother, who said she last saw her daughter on Sunday. The younger Villamar said she was going out with friends but never returned home.
