During a ceremony at the Hotel del Rio in Iloilo City last week, Iloilo City was declared the most child-friendly local government unit in the Western Visayas by the regional Department of the Interior and Local Government and Department of Social Welfare and Development after earning a 98 percent rating.

“This is another milestone for Iloilo City,” said Iloilo City Mayor Jose Espinosa III. “This is a manifestation that city government includes our children in all its programs.”

The city received the Seal of Child-Friendly Local Governance 2017, a certificate of recognition, and P50,000 from the Sub-Committee for the Welfare of Children-Region VI.

The recognition qualifies the city as a national finalist for the 2017 Presidential Award for Child-Friendly Municipalities and Cities.

Bacolod City and La Castellana were also named among the “Most Child Friendly” local government units./WDJ
