According to data recently released by the Aklan Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), the province reported an 8.1 percent inflation rate last month. The highest in the Western Visayas behind Negros Occidental, which recorded a rate of 9.1 percent.

Earlier reports revealed the national inflation rate came in around  6.7 percent.

The agency reported a rise among several commodity groups, including the alcoholic beverages and tobacco index at 24.1 percent and transport with 11 percent.

The upward movement has been the trend in the province as of recent months, with PSA-Aklan reporting a 5.1 percent spike in June, up from 1.5 percent during the same period last year.

Earlier this month, in response to rising inflation, Negros Occidental Governor Alfredo Marañon, Jr. issued an executive order reorganizing the Provincial Local Price Coordinating Council by expanding representation, along with further addressing concerns related to price stability and the supply of basic necessities and commodities./WDJ
