A drunk man was killed after he was run over by a speeding sport utility vehicle (SUV) late Saturday night along Araneta Street in Barangay Sum-ag, Bacolod City.

Police identified the fatality as Jessie Patingo, a resident of Sitio Mambaruto in Barangay Tu-oy, Himamaylan City.

Police Station 9 (PS9) commander, Police Senior Inspector Jun Ray Batadlan, said Patingo, who was reportedly drunk at the time of the incident, was crossing the road when he was struck by an SUV driven by 29-year-old Virgilio Bayon, a resident of Barangay San Juan, Pontevedra.

Batadlan said Bayon was following an ambulance, which was carrying his boss, to a hospital in Bacolod City.

The force of the impact also damaged the front portion of the vehicle.

Patingo was declared dead on arrival at the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital due to multiple body injuries.
