The second-seeded Christian Pelione ruled in the just-concluded 1st Negros Future Chess Masters 12 and Under Tournament 2018 after sweeping seven rounds over the weekend at the City Mall Mandalagan.
The 10-year old Pelione bested four other finishers namely, second placer Dwayne Pahaganas (6.0/7pts., 32.5BH), third placer Jhruell Ferrer (6.0/7 pts., 31.5BH), and fourth placer Arnie Joanne Suravilla (6.0/7, 30.0BH).
Bacolod Chess Miters Association (BCMA) founding president and tournament director Ted Ian Montoyo expressed his gratitude to the winners and promising players as well as their parents who supported the tournament.
“Our chess program is focusing on the grassroots talents in our city [Bacolod]. Part of that is to identify, then develop and give a venue to improve their game…,” Montoyo stressed.
Completing the top 15 are Jasmine Atienza, Jecuambz Cuambot, Johnmel Ignacio, Jamelin Lim, Amer Ice Uychiat, Shawn Agustin Paril, Ariette Jezka Villanueva, Kristian Jade Bardinas, Maveriex Lingco, Justin Marco Montoya, and Aeralyn Sinining.
The winners received cash prizes, trophies and medals.
