A car has fallen into an unfinished flood control project on Lacson Street in Bacolod City.

The 27-year-old Charles Angelo Mastelero of EB Magalona, Negros Occidental was the car’s driver, police said.

Police Station 2 traffic investigator Police Officer 2 Regino Rex Eduardo said Mastelero was taking a left turn late Monday evening when he fell off the road.

Eduardo said Mastelero did not notice the ongoing construction on the road.

Mastelero was driving slowly at the time, according to Eduardo.

The car had a minor damage. It was pulled out of the unfinished project by a tow truck.

The incident would not have happened if contractors installed proper road signage in the area, warning motorists of the ongoing construction, said Eduardo.

The incident sparked negative reactions on social media, with netizens blasting the Department of Public Works and Highways and the contractor for their slow working pace.

In a press conference last month, Bacolod Traffic Authority Office head Superintendent Luisito Acebuche said the project will be completed by October./DGB, WDJ
