The Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO) recently revealed plans to establish Highway Police Assistance Desks (Hi-PADS), which will be set up at police stations located along highways throughout the province, in an effort to implement road safety ordinances.
According to IPPO director, Police Senior Superintendent Marlon Tayaba, personnel will be provided handheld radios, lights and blinkers, among other equipment.
He added, two or three officers will man each desk, which will be active 24 hours a day.
Last May, the Iloilo City Public Safety and Transportation Management Office resumed apprehending traffic violators after receiving a new supply of temporary operator’s permits (TOPs) earlier this month.
TOPs are issued to motorists who violate traffic regulations.
“Traffic laws are implemented to protect the riding public and drivers,” said Iloilo City Mayor Jose Espinosa III. “The city government is making a way to strictly enforce road safety ordinances.”/WDJ
