After Typhoon “Sendong” struck the Philippines in 2011, the Dumaguete City government recently announced a 3.3-hectare relocation site for an estimated 371 victims of the storm is ready for development.
The site had been delayed after previous failed attempts to secure the area; however, as of last week, the lot has since been cleared and fenced off in order to begin developing the site.
The city currently has two existing relocation sites in Barangays Junob and Bagacay, which house around 80 families.
Tropical Storm “Sendong” (international name Washi), struck the country in December 2011, which left thousands dead and cost over P1 billion in damages./WDJ
