Last month, three Bacolod City barangay captains announced their candidacy in the upcoming Association of Barangay Captains (ABC) election. Most recently, Barangay Vista Alegre Captain Jose Maria Leandro Norberto de Leon threw his hat into the ring.
It was earlier reported incumbent ABC President, Barangay Tangub Captain Noli Villarosa; Barangay 15 Captain Anjo Ayco; and Barangay Singcang-Airport Captain Rosinie Distrito were vying for the presidency, with the incumbent expressing confidence, noting, 18 barangay captains had already pledged their support for him.
Villarosa also carries the banner of “opposition candidate” as all three of his opponents are associated with Grupo Progreso (GP), the local political coalition led by Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia.
However, among the three allied candidates, Distrito believes he should be the official GP bet, calling himself “loyal and supportive to GP since his first term.”
The Barangay Singcang-Airport captain said “it is high time” to share his experience and unite the city’s barangays.
According to Bacolod City Department of the Interior and Local Government Director Ma. Joy Maredith Madayag, the ABC election will take place on July 16./JSG, WDJ
