At least 6,000 delegates from across the province participated in a caravan for federalism at the Isabela Socio-cultural Center last Saturday.
Isabela Mayor Joselito Malabor, who hosted the event in coordination with the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), rallied delegates to join their respective communities in support of a shift to a federal form of government.
Malabor stressed, they are pushing for constitutional reforms and not necessarily charter change.
He pointed out, there are certain provisions in the Constitution that need to be amended in order to suit the needs of local government units (LGUs).
He further said, “Charter Change” may take so much time compared to constitutional reforms.
Malabor believes reforms to the Constitution have to be made to further empower LGUs and fast track the delivery of basic services.
He added, this will be the last activity for the campaign in Isabela, adding, he will be part of the DILG initiative to conduct federalism roadshows in other areas of the country./DGB, WDJ
