The Iloilo City government recently earned the 2017 Seal of Child-Friendly Local Governance after recording a score of 98 percent, the highest among cities in the Western Visayas.
“Garnering a total score of 98 percent means the city was able to provide quality education, shelter, health, and protection to children,” said Iloilo City Mayor Jose Espinosa III.
The mayor said the city will work on constructing halfway houses for street children and minors in violation of the law.
The seal is administered by the Department of the Interior and Local Government, Council for the Welfare of Children, Department of Social Welfare and Development, and Department of Health.
The recognition also qualifies the city to compete for the Presidential Award for Child-Friendly Municipalities and Cities./WDJ
