A suspected robbery suspect was killed after resisting arrest during an entrapment operation at a lodging house located along Circumferential Road in Barangay Bata, Bacolod City.
Police identified the fatality as Jing Pasigna Mijares, a resident of Purok Makawiwili, Barangay Banago of the said city.
During a press conference at the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) yesterday morning, spokesperson, Police Senior Inspector Armilyn Vargas, said Police Station 3 (PS3) commander, Police Senior Inspector Victor Paulino, initially received a complaint from Mijares’ victim, identified as Kreenia Gayoso, claiming she was held up in Barangay Banago last April 28.
Gayoso reportedly told the PS3 commander the suspects contacted her, offering to exchange the stolen items for P15,000.
After learning of Mijares’ involvement in the crime, Paulino ordered an entrapment operation against the suspect, as the suspect was wanted on robbery charges.
As the operation proceeded, Mijares and an accomplice, 44-year-old Eugene Baliguas, sensed a police presence, prompting the suspect to fire his .38 caliber revolver.
Police responded by opening fire, killing Mijares on the spot, while officers also arrested Baliguas.
Authorities recovered Mijares’ .38 caliber revolver, loaded with three live bullets; and one empty .38 caliber cartridge from the crime scene.
Mijares’ remains were brought to the Rolling Hills Memorial Chapel following the incident, while Baliguas may face conspiracy, robbery, and extortion charges./DGB, WDJ
