The Iloilo City Public Library (ICPL) recently opened a children’s nook on the second floor of Iloilo City Hall, which seeks to teach arts and crafts for children between the ages of four and 10.

“This is a summer workshop for our children every May,” said City Librarian Marion Aguirre. “Since these children have no classes this summer, we thought of ways to teach them arts, crafts, and mosaic, among other [subjects].”

Summer workshops take place every Wednesday afternoon and can accommodate 30 children. Availability will be done on a first-come, first-serve basis.

On May 9, children will be taught how to use beads as decorations; and on May 23, a mosaic class will be taught.

The May 16 session on drawing and coloring, however, will be held on May 18.

A culminating activity will take place on May 30.

“Although we also use technology to teach our children, we, librarians, have to instill in them the importance of reading and traditional games and crafts,” Aguirre added./WDJ
