A total of 70 applicants were hired on-the-spot during Tuesday’s Labor Day job fair conducted by the regional office of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) in Iloilo City.

Salome Siaton, Assistant Regional Director of DOLE 6 (Western Visayas), said those hired on-the-spot were all for local employment.

“We are happy for them because immediately, after the end of the day, they were hired,” she said.

Siaton said other applicants were required by potential employers to submit additional requirements and will be considered upon further verification of their records.

They will also undergo follow-up interviews with the top management, she said.

Siaton added that they are planning to determine which among the available local jobs have usually more hired on-the-spot applicants.

Held at the Marymart mall here, the one-day job fair offered nearly 16,500 job vacancies from 54 local and overseas placement companies.

DOLE-6 registered 1,068 job applicants, 1,304 of whom were qualified for the jobs.

Siaton said there were more qualified applicants than registered applicants since some have applied for two or more available jobs where they also qualified. (PNA)
