Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Secretary Silvestre Bello III recently warned employers operating at resort destination Boracay against laying off employees amid the pending closure of the island, set to begin on April 26.
In a statement, the cabinet official said, “Temporary suspension of business operations should not, and must not, result in the termination or separation of any employee.”
“Employees are expected to be recalled back to work upon the lifting of the temporary closure of Boracay,” Bello noted.
He explained, employers may employ the “No Work, No Pay” principle when dealing with expected six-month shutdown./WDJ
