The Commission on Elections-Region VI (Comelec-6) recently revealed they are ready to send Iloilo ballot boxes to the Presidential Electoral Tribunal (PET) as part of the ongoing 2016 vice presidential race recount between Vice President Maria Leonor “‘Leni” Robredo and former Senator Ferdinand Marcos, Jr.

According to Comelec-6 Director Dennis Ausan, the office is awaiting the request from the Supreme Court.

During his visit to the 2018 Dinagyang Festival earlier this year, Marcos said, as running mate of the late Senator Miriam Defensor Santiago, who was from Iloilo City, he found it “hard to believe” he lost in the province.

Based on initial results, Robredo won Iloilo by 573,729 votes to Marcos’ 94,411.

Iloilo is one of three pilot areas for the recount, the other two include Negros Oriental and Robredo’s home province of Camarines Sur./WDJ
