Most deaths occurred in Negros Occidental

According to a recent report by the Department of Health-Region VI (DOH-6), there were a total 14 rabies deaths in the region last year, which nearly doubled the amount recorded in the previous year.
In 2016, there were a total nine human deaths attributed to rabies reported.
DOH-6 rabies nurse coordinator Caroline Tumabotabo said the majority of deaths occurred in Negros Occidental, with a total eight cases.
Earlier this year, the Bacolod City Veterinarian Office (CVO) reported, as of December 31, 2017, 88.19 percent of dogs and cats in the city had been vaccinated for rabies.
According to CVO chief, Dr. Ma. Agueda Trinidad F. De la Torre, a total 47,627 dogs were vaccinated in 2017./PLL, WDJ
