An electric tricycle operator was declared dead on the spot after being shot four times in what police believe was the result of a love triangle along Venus Street at the Hillside Subdivision in Barangay Mansilingan, Bacolod City, yesterday morning.
Police identified the fatality as 36-year-old Rommel Reyes, a resident of Barangay Blumentritt, Murcia, Negros Occidental.
Police Station 7 (PS7) commander, Police Senior Inspector Ramel Sarona, said the victim, along with his friend, Michael Trinidad, stopped in the area in order for the latter to urinate.
The suspect, identified as Rommel ‘Koykoy’ Ayson, also a resident of Barangay Blumentritt, approached Reyes and inquired about his vehicle.
The suspect then pulled out a firearm, believed to be a caliber .38 revolver, and shot Reyes.
After Reyes fell off the e-trike, Ayson allegedly fired at the victim’s head, killing him on the spot.
The suspect then sped off on a motorcycle.
Trinidad, who managed to flee unscathed, contacted PS7.
A manhunt operation against Ayson was declared, later resulting in his arrest in Barangay Taculing, Bacolod City.
According to Ayson, he was furious at Reyes after his wife failed to return home last Saturday, believing she was having an affair with the victim.
Ayson is detained at PS7 and faces murder and illegal possession of firearms charges./DGB, WDJ
