According to the Capiz Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO), around 5,000 farmers throughout the province were considered eligible for disaster relief assistance as a result of Tropical Depression Agaton.
Capiz PDRRMO head Esperidion Pelaez said around P10.9 million has already been acquired from a calamity fund, in order to assist those considered “heavily affected” by the storm.
Those eligible for assistance will receive P290 per day, over seven and a half days.
Pelaez added, municipalities that were placed under a state of calamity, namely Panitan, Sigma, and Pontevedra, have the option of matching the provincial assistance.
Capiz was severely impacted by the storm, with 159 of the province’s 473 barangays reporting flooding and Capiz Governor Tony del Rosario forced to suspend classes for a day./PLL, WDJ
