The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) in Bacolod City completed fire safety inspections of all local business process outsourcing (BPO) firms, or call centers.
BFP-Bacolod fire marshall, Fire Chief Inspector Pobleo Ploteña, said 15 call center establishments underwent safety inspections this week and all were fully compliant with fire safety standards.
He added, fire inspectors did not find any fire safety code violations.
Ploteña said they received a memorandum this week from the BFP central office in Manila ordering inspections of all call center firms in their area, especially those operating in shopping malls.
He also advised call center firms to carry out regular fire drills.
The newly-appointed Bacolod fire marshall earlier ordered the inspections, following last month’s fire at the New City Commercial Center (NCCC) in Davao City, which left 38 people dead, most of which were call center employees./DGB, WDJ
