After previously ordering the installation of more lighting units in Iloilo City’s Jaro Plaza, a total of 60 LED floodlights were installed at the Jaro Plaza, La Paz District Plaza, and Plaza Libertad, as directed by Mayor Jose Espinosa III.
City Engineer Roberto Divinagracia previously projected Jaro Plaza improvements would be completed by November 1.
According to Engr. Ernesto Fabales of the City Engineer’s Office, LED floodlights were utilized to make the area “significantly brighter during the night.”
The mayor earlier pointed out, “Good lighting prevents accidents.”
Fabales added, additional lights are also expected to be installed at other city plazas.
In addition to lighting fixtures, Espinosa previously ordered the removal of illegal structures, which included kiosks selling ‘ukay-ukay,’ or second-hand clothing retailers, from Jaro Plaza and Mandurriao Plaza.
Following an inspection of the area, the mayor observed kiosks were “causing hindrance to pedestrians as well as motor vehicles,” which he said eventually results in traffic congestion.
He also took notice of unauthorized electrical connections made to the city government line in Jaro Plaza./WDJ
