Originally scheduled to run from October 15 to 21, the 8th Negros First Governor Alfredo G. Marañon, Jr. Cup Open Boxing Championships will begin on Sunday, October 22, until October 28.
According to Negros Occidental Sports Coordinators President Benzon Fernandez, sufficient accommodations for visiting boxers were not available for the number of participants expected for the event.
He acknowledged, schools in the area, the intended boarding facilities, are still being occupied by students, however, he assured the new schedule will provide for additional accommodations.
Negros Occidental Provincial Sports Coordinator Angel Verdeflor earlier noted boxers from the seven congressional districts of Negros Occidental, including Bacolod City, will participate in the tournament, competing in different weight classes.
Last year’s tournament was held in Pontevedra, where the 6th District won the overall championship./JSG, WDJ
