The Environmental Law Enforcement Team (ELET), under the Cadiz City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) enforcement division, recently apprehended a van carrying 20 sacks of illegal charcoal in Barangay General Luna, Toboso in Negros Occidental.
According to authorities, the driver, identified as Ildefonso Nuyad, a resident of Barangay Balintawak, Escalante City in Negros Occidental, did not possess any documents from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), which violates RA 7161, the Revised Forestry Code of the Philippines.
The vehicle, owned by Fast Distribution Corporation, which is based in Mandaue City, Cebu, has since been impounded by the Cadiz CENRO.
Administrative adjudication proceedings for the case began last Monday./WDJ
