While recently attending the 2017 Makina Expo in Iloilo City, Department of Agriculture Secretary Emmanuel Piñol refused to speak on the allegations hurled by President Rodrigo Duterte at Iloilo City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog regarding suspected links to illegal drugs.
“I cannot comment on political issues,” he insisted. “Ask me about rice planting and I will answer you.”
“I don’t constrain myself with rumors about his involvement with drugs,” the cabinet official added. “I am not involved in the campaign against drugs.”
Meanwhile, spokesperson for Mabilog, Atty. Mark Piad, has been tamping down rumors the mayor fled the country in light of the scrutiny.
The mayor left for Japan towards the end of last month, a day before the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) conducted an inspection of his waterfront home, which overlooks the Iloilo River; and is currently in Malaysia.
According to Piad, the mayor is in Malaysia for the Environmental Urban Accord Summit./WDJ
