Abang Lingkod Party-list Rep. Stephen Paduano said the proposal to postpone the upcoming barangay polls will go smoothly before House of Representatives and the Senate, speculating the bill will be approved before the end of the month.
He said the House of Representatives has already come to a consensus, agreeing to synchronize the barangay elections with the vote on charter change and the Bangsamoro Basic Law.
However, Paduano noted, the said measures may not be ready by May and suggested barangay elections may be pushed back again.
He added there was also an agreement in retaining incumbent barangay officials instead of having them appointed.
House Bill 5359, introduced by Surigao del Norte second district Rep. Robert Barbers, seeks to postpone barangay elections and give the power to appoint barangay officials to President Rodrigo Duterte./WDJ
