Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Acting Secretary Catalino Cuy yesterday assured provincial employees and law enforcement assigned to the Negros Island Region (NIR) will not be displaced, following the recent executive order dissolving the region.
He explained, employees would only be returned to their respective offices, either Region 6 and Region 7.
“The PNP would also have the same setup,” the DILG official added.
Cuy said Police Regional Office-18 (PRO-18) and its personnel will be reorganized and distributed between the two respective regions.
However, he said the agency is still looking into the situation for contractual workers.
Last week, President Rodrigo Duterte signed Executive Order No. 38, effectively abolishing the NIR.
The region’s dissolution stemmed from Department of Budget and Management Secretary Benjamin Diokno quoting the cost of the region’s retention at P19 billion./WDJ
