Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia urged the city government to act on completing cell number two of the city’s sanitary landfill in Barangay Felisa, in order to pass requirements set forth by RA 9003, or the Solid Waste Management Act.
He noted, it would take time if the city were to find a new location for the landfill, adding it would also need an environmental compliance certificate from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).
The mayor also clarified, the P20 million approved for the landfill cell completion was the initial amount needed for completion.
He said an additional P30 million may be necessary, which includes funds needed for the purchase of land for another landfill./WDJ
