A senior citizen was killed by unidentified gunmen near his home in the mountainous portion of Barangay Minautok, Calatrava, Negros Occidental, late Sunday evening.
Police identified the fatality as 71-year-old Efraem Gubat, a land surveyor and resident of the said barangay.
Calatrava municipal police reported Gubat was preparing to go to sleep when there was a knock at the door.
When Gubat answered the door, seven men introduced themselves as members of the Philippine Army and asked if they could borrow a kettle.
The victim went to the kitchen, and upon his return, he was shot by four of the suspects while the other three served as lookouts.
Gubat was killed after sustaining multiple gunshot wounds.
Calatrava police recovered five empty .45 caliber shells and one slug of unknown caliber at the crime scene.
Investigators, meanwhile, believe the motive of the incident was due to a land conflict./WDJ
